Overview
Factor Wallet is the official wallet for FACT, the native coin of the Factor blockchain. It is a non-custodial wallet: your private keys are generated on your own computer and never leave it. Nobody — including the Factor team — can access, freeze or recover your funds for you.
Non-custodial
You alone hold the keys and the seed phrase.
HD wallet
One seed backs up every address you will ever create.
Native SegWit
Addresses start with fact1 and carry lower fees.
Open source
MIT-licensed code anyone can audit and build.
How Factor works
Factor is a proof-of-work blockchain derived from the Bitcoin codebase. Instead of hashing until a lucky number appears, miners secure blocks by factoring large integers into their prime factors. The work is hard to do and trivial to verify, and it turns network security into useful mathematical research.
- Transactions are recorded on a public ledger that anyone can inspect in the Explorer.
- Each block rewards the miner who solved it; larger integers earn larger rewards.
- Coins use the familiar UTXO model, so wallets, addresses and scripts behave like Bitcoin.
Wallet types
Factor offers two kinds of wallet. Both control the same coins on the same network.
| Factor Wallet (light) | Full-node wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| Based on | Electrum (Python, Qt interface) | Factor Core daemon (factornd) |
| Blockchain download | Not required — connects to servers | Full copy of the chain |
| Start-up time | Seconds | Hours for first sync |
| Backup | 12-word seed phrase | Descriptor wallet file / seed |
| Best for | Everyday use, holding, payments | Mining, bounties, developers |
Most users should choose the light Factor Wallet. Use the full node if you mine, run services, or want to verify every block yourself.
Installation
Download the build for your system from the download page. Only install files from official sources.
Windows
- Download the
.exeinstaller (or the portable version). - Run it and follow the setup steps. If SmartScreen warns you, choose “More info → Run anyway” only for the official file.
- Open Factor Wallet from the Start menu.
macOS
- Download the
.dmgfile and open it. - Drag Factor Wallet into Applications.
- On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open to confirm.
Linux
Use the AppImage, or run from source:
sudo apt-get install libsecp256k1-dev python3-pyqt5 python3-cryptography
python3 -m pip install --user ".[gui,crypto]"
./run_electrumCreate a wallet
- Launch the app and choose Create a new wallet; give it a name.
- Select Standard wallet, then Create a new seed.
- Write down the 12 words in order, on paper. Confirm them on the next screen.
- Set a strong password. It encrypts the wallet file on this device.
Already have a seed? Choose I already have a seed to restore your wallet and all its funds on a new computer.
Seed phrase & backup
The seed phrase is the master key to your coins. Anyone who has it can spend your FACT; if you lose it and your computer fails, the funds are gone forever.
- Store it offline — paper or metal — in at least two safe places.
- Never type it into a website, a chat, an email or a photo.
- Factor support will never ask for your seed or password.
- The password protects the file only; the seed alone can restore the wallet.
Receiving FACT
- Open the Receive tab.
- Optionally add a description and amount, then create a request.
- Share the address or QR code. It looks like
fact1q4zjycg88kyk72szmhpjvm82mu0zm6p26g7zeh8.
A new address is generated for every request to protect your privacy; all of them belong to the same seed.
Sending FACT
- Open the Send tab and paste the recipient’s address.
- Enter the amount, or click Max to send the full balance.
- Review the fee, click Pay and enter your password.
Transactions cannot be reversed. Always double-check the first and last characters of the address.
Fees & confirmations
Each transaction pays a small fee to the miner who includes it in a block. A higher fee gets confirmed sooner when the network is busy. A payment is visible immediately as unconfirmed; wait for several confirmations before treating large amounts as final.
Security
- Download the wallet only from factorwallet.org or the official repository.
- Keep your operating system and the wallet up to date.
- Use a unique wallet password and enable disk encryption.
- For large holdings, keep a separate wallet on an offline machine.
- Beware of fake “support” accounts, airdrops and giveaways asking you to send coins first.
Command-line wallet
With a running Factor node you can manage a descriptor wallet from the terminal:
factorn-wallet -wallet=<name> -descriptors create
factorn-cli loadwallet <name>
factorn-cli getnewaddress
factorn-cli getaddressinfo <address>
factorn-cli getbalance
factorn-cli -named sendtoaddress address="<address>" amount=1.5Back up the wallet regularly with factorn-cli backupwallet /path/to/backup.dat.
Mining
Mining requires a synced full node and the mining software. Create an address with the command-line wallet, read its scriptPubKey from getaddressinfo and pass that value to the miner so block rewards are paid to you. Rewards depend on the size of the integer factored.
Deadpool bounties
The deadpool lets anyone post an integer with a FACT bounty, or add coins to an existing one. Whoever finds a factor announces the solution, waits at least 100 blocks (and no more than 672) and then claims the reward. Solved bounties are tracked on the network statistics.
Tokenomics
- No pre-mine, no pre-sale, no team allocation.
- Every coin enters circulation through mining only.
- Dynamic supply — no hard cap; rewards scale with the difficulty of the work.
- Circulating supply equals total supply at all times; some coins are burned by the protocol.
Troubleshooting
- The wallet says “not connected”.
- Check your internet connection and firewall, then open Network settings and pick another server.
- My balance is zero after restoring.
- Make sure the words are in the right order and that you chose the same wallet type. Wait for synchronisation to finish.
- A transaction stays unconfirmed.
- It was likely sent with a low fee. Wait, or use “Increase fee” if available.
- I forgot my password.
- Restore the wallet from your seed phrase and set a new password.
